Family Is to be a Safe Place

Proverbs 14:22-27.

Tornado season is a scary time. Tornadoes come through towns leaving destruction behind them. When a tornado is coming, people are told to find shelter. The best shelter you can find is a storm shelter. They are built to keep you safe from the storm. Often, you will find destruction all around, but the shelter still remains, keeping those inside safe.

Proverbs says a family who fears the Lord is a safe shelter. A family who follows God should be a safe place in the storms of life. There are many different types of shelters we can trust in, but, like the storm shelter, God is the best shelter to protect us from the storm.

Earlier this week, we read in Colossians the call to live a life that has been transformed by the love of God and, in turn, lives out love to the world, particularly in our family units. Living into this life of transformation makes our households a place of safety and stability. We become a safe place not just for our family members but for the broken of the world to gather and rest from the storms of their lives.
