Love Brings Us Together

August 19th, 2025

Colossians 3:12-16.

Today’s passage lists many virtues and practices of Christian relationships, but while they are important, Colossians claims that love is over all of these things. Love is the glue that holds the community together. It is through the love of Christ that we have been forgiven and transformed. As a result, we are called to show that same love and grace as we walk alongside others in our lives.

We are called to forgive out of love and to repent out of love. We are to treat others with kindness, compassion, and patience out of God’s love flowing through us. This does not mean that conflict never happens in our relationships, but all our actions toward others should be done through the lens of love. We no longer rejoice at the fall of our enemies. We see all as brothers and sisters who are loved by God. Christian community means not seeking to play power games, but instead desiring to serve each other.

It means, like Jesus, meeting people where they are at, instead of expecting them to come to church all put together. This lens of love transforms the way we see others and the world around us.
