A True Friend

Proverbs 27:9-14.
In today’s world, social media has distorted the definition of a friend. Some people try to accumulate “friends” as fast as they can because they associate personal value with the number of friends or “likes” they collect. However, even with a substantial number of friends and likes, loneliness is still a problem. Those types of friends are not the friends referred to in Psalms 27. Today’s scripture is talking about a true friend.
I’ve heard it said that if you have one true friend in your life, then you are blessed. If you have a true friend, then you know it is someone you can be free with, free to be yourself and share intimate thoughts, all without fear of ridicule or judgment. A true friend always has time for you and always wants the best for you. A true friend makes loneliness disappear and provides valuable counsel.
God, help us be the kind of true friend that you model for us. Your heart is always open to receive us, and your grace is always extended for us. You are unconditional, and always seek the best for our eternal welfare, even when it creates discomfort in the present.
