Do No Wrong

Psalm 15:1-5.
“LORD, who may dwell in your sacred tent? Who may live on your holy mountain?” (v. 1). This is one of the weightiest questions in the Bible. After all, don’t we all want to know who gets into heaven?
It is interesting that the answer isn’t in the form of people’s names, titles, or professions. Perhaps you have witnessed nepotism. To me there is nothing more annoying than someone being promoted or given favor just because of their family name. God makes it clear that having an impressive pedigree does not assure you will get to heaven; no one should feel entitled to heaven. Heaven is a great privilege.
The answer to this weighty question in verse 1 is a description of people who will go to heaven (vv. 2ff.). The description starts with generalities: people who are blameless, righteous, and truthful.
Beginning in verse 3, the description gets more specific: “Who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others.” One characteristic of a godly person is to value all people, not for what they can do for us, but for who they are. God calls us to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39).
Lord, help us see people through your eyes!
