At All Costs, Commit to God
August 1st, 2025
1 Peter 4:12-19.
There is a misconception that when one becomes a Christian, they will no longer go through hard times. Our passage makes it clear that this is not true. When Jesus calls Christians to pick up their crosses and follow Him, He is not using a metaphor. He is recognizing that sometimes, following Him, will lead to suffering and death.
Peter promises that while we may suffer, one day all will be made right. As a result, Christians are challenged to not give up on doing good even when we suffer. Jesus understands what it means to suffer for following Him, and He led the way through His death on the cross. When we suffer, God sees our pain and mourns with us.
In the midst of that suffering, we cling to the hope of the resurrection. We know that one day, God will bring us up out of our suffering, whether it is in this life or in the next. It is this promise that helps us to keep pressing forward in this walk with God. We trust that good will prevail and that God’s kingdom will come here on earth.
