Don’t Forget God’s Words
July 28th, 2025
2 Peter 3:1-7.
When baking, it is important to follow the directions. Baking is precise and requires the baker to pay attention to the directions in order to get the desired result. Too much of one ingredient can lead to bread that does not rise or taste right. Not following the directions leads to ruined bread. In the same way, Scripture is God’s instruction book to humanity. It gives us the ingredients that we need to live a holy life.
When life gets hard, it is easy to forget to turn to Scripture for guidance. Peter reminds us that in these moments of doubt and questioning, Scripture helps guide us in the right direction. Scripture is the like a recipe to a baker, helping us to know the right ingredients and actions to grow and be shaped as a Christian.
We read the stories of those who have gone before us, reminding ourselves of the faithfulness of God in the past in order that we might be faithful in the present. Being shaped by these words helps us to find firm footing when the storms of life come and threaten to tear us away.
