Holy Spirit Kingdom

July 14th, 2025

Acts 1:1-5.

When a person has a near-death experience, it usually results in a significant change in them. In this passage, after Jesus had an actual death experience and came back to life, we are told what He did. He talked with people about the kingdom of God (v. 3). What He did after His experience of death is the same thing He was doing in His life before! In Luke’s Gospel (who also wrote Acts), Jesus spoke about the kingdom of God more than 30 times.

What does Jesus want to say to us about the kingdom of God? We find a clue here in verse 5. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit. The kingdom of God is not external. It is not wealth or health. It is not even the material beauty that we think of as heaven.

The kingdom of God is our lives immersed (baptized, v. 5) in the Holy Spirit. It is our lives so completely led by God’s Spirit that our minds constantly listen for the Spirit’s voice. We wait for the Holy Spirit (v. 4) to guide us in every part of our lives.

How do we need to hear the Spirit today?
