Zechariah 14:1-8.    

Zechariah casts a vision for Israel in his closing words: A day of the Lord is coming that will bring about judgment on Jerusalem and on the nations who attack the city and its people.

Evident throughout this unfolding of judgment is a reminder that all created things have been crafted by the Lord and are still subject to the molding of His hands. The one “who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth” (12:1) can cause a miles-long mountain range to split in two, forming a valley of escape for the people. Darkness and its accompanying chill will be no more, and the burning source of daylight we have always known will be replaced by the very light of the Lord. The entire city of Jerusalem will be lifted up. Rain will be held back from some while fresh water flows out from Jerusalem and brings life to a barren and dead sea.

Take a few minutes today to sit and bask in the beauty of creation all around us. Remember the Lord’s goodness and sovereignty over all of heaven and earth, both now and into eternity.
