Sharing the Blessings

June 27th, 2025

Genesis 50:15-21

A moment in Joseph’s story in Genesis 50 is a profound moment of restoration. Joseph had every right to be angry with his brothers, who sold him into slavery and staged his death to fool their father. He could have harbored anger, and he now held power over them. Instead, he chose to see that God had worked for the wellbeing of God’s people even during such a terrible act.

The brothers had intended harm, but God was seeking good. Joseph allowed God to use the worst parts of his life, to bring about good for the people of God, and now his brothers were benefiting from that goodness.

We often view the blessings of God as things that belong to us, but Joseph viewed the blessings of God as something to be shared with everyone, even the family that wronged him. This doesn’t mean we should remain in abusive situations, by no means! This isn’t a story of remaining in unhealthy relationships, but instead one of laying down the right to revenge and sharing God’s blessings with everyone.
