Applying Knowledge

June 22nd, 2025

1 Corinthians 12:1-11

Paul teaches the church about the variety and source of spiritual gifts. However, before he names the gifts, he is clear that all the gifts come from the same source: the Holy Spirit. Paul instructs the church that the gifts of the Spirit are for the common good of the church, not for individual prestige or position. Paul begins his list of gifts with wisdom and repeats that wisdom comes through the Spirit. After giving a list of gifts, Paul concludes by restating that all gifts come from the Holy Spirit.

Wisdom is how we use information. It does a farmer little good to understand weather patterns, planting methods, and harvesting techniques if he does not apply that knowledge to his daily activities.

The Holy Spirit is the enabler in us in times when wisdom is required. Wisdom and knowledge are foundational for the leadership and guidance of the local church and individual believers.

We acknowledge the gifts the Holy Spirit provides and constantly direct our praise and gratefulness back to the Giver of the gifts.
