Wisdom Provides Safety
June 3rd, 2025
Proverbs 1:28-33
Street preacher Woman Wisdom doesn’t stop preaching. She calls out an urgent warning to those passing by on the city’s streets—the hawkers, gawkers, deliverers—you “simple” and you “fools” (v. 32).
You rejected “knowledge.” You mocked “my rebuke.” You were complacent. You refused “my advice.” You turned away from the “fear of the LORD” (v. 29). Your choices “will destroy” you! Yes, they “will kill” you! (v. 32).
When you least expect it, without warning, with the suddenness of a tornado, calamity and disaster will crash in upon you. You will call out to me: Wisdom! But it’ll be too late. “I will not answer” (1:28).
Wisdom’s urgent advice to you readers: “Choose to fear the LORD” (v. 29). Then you “will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm” (v. 33).
The apostle Paul urgently called his readers to repentance: “And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light” (Romans 13:11-12).
