Finding Wisdom with Fervor

May 27th, 2025

Proverbs 2:1-8

I sprained my ankle on the last full day of teen camp while playing a dangerous game. I then accepted a golf cart ride to the closing service that evening to take the pressure off my injury and dropped my phone somewhere along the path. I will never forget how frantically I searched over the next hour, injured and in the dark, eventually finding my phone.

The gaining of wisdom is a partnership between God and humanity. Wisdom is a gift from the Lord that comes from His mouth alone, but we also must actively turn our ears to wisdom and apply it to our hearts. We must call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding.

We must search for wisdom, not with a frantic spirit, but with more fervor than we search for anything else, from our lost wallets and keys to the things we have not yet attained but desire, such as a spouse.

When was the last time you cried out for wisdom and searched fervently? Most of our searching has a beginning and an ending, but as we learned from Proverbs, the search for wisdom never ceases.
