The Right Fuel

May 20th, 2025

Galatians 6:7-11

A friend related this story: A man drove a brand new diesel pickup, towing a trailer for his boss. It was a pleasure to drive. It was deluxe in every way: a large crew cab, a smooth ride, and the most powerful engine available. His first stop on his journey was for fuel at a large truck stop. When he tried to start the truck, something went wrong. Black smoke boiled from the tailpipe. The engine sputtered and failed.

The truck was quickly pulled into a service bay. Soon, it was discovered that someone had mistakenly pumped gasoline into the diesel storage tank. The pickup required a new engine and fuel system. Damages for this one vehicle, including months of down time, eventually cost the fuel company tens of thousands of dollars. Worse, there were other vehicles damaged as well!

Trying to run our spiritual life on the flesh’s fuel will inevitably result in catastrophic damage. How we do what we do, and why we do it, all matter in a life lived for God. Only the power and presence of the Holy Spirit will yield adequate power and blessing (Acts 1:8).
