Holy Self-Control

May 15th, 2025

1 Thessalonians 4:1-6

Technology is great when it works. Despite popular belief, technology can only do so much. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is growing in popularity in some communities. No matter how many choices we let AI decide for us, it’ll never be able to make the moral choices God calls us to make for ourselves, especially when it comes to physical dilemmas.

God’s Word doesn’t always speak explicitly to all our moral questions. When it does, we should heed God’s instruction and submit to His ways. When we answer the question, “Who will be my Lord?” Scripture tells us clearly, “It is God’s will that [we] should be sanctified.” That is, we ought to surrender our will to God because His ways are always better than ours.

Humbly submitting to God’s will means we seek to do what He wants even if it wouldn’t otherwise be our first choice. We give Him control as He teaches us to be self-controlled. When the choices involve our bodies and what we do with them, we should always seek God’s will first.
