Get Caught Serving

Galatians 5:2-12
The tank is full. The luggage is loaded. The kids are belted in. The trip has begun; adventures await, snacks distributed, cruise control set. With the music playing, the little black and white sign went unnoticed. A few moments later, a glance in the mirror revealed the flashing lights.
We pulled over, calmed the kids, and prepared to answer questions in honest bewilderment as the officer revealed that the speed limit had dropped and we’d broken the law. All that was left to do was sign the ticket, budget for the fine, and learn from the experience—including finding a new route home.
Drivers can drive at any speed they choose. However, they’re responsible for the consequences of their choices. The law serves a purpose. It’s to keep people safe. As law-abiding citizens, we enjoy freedom. As law-breaking citizens, freedom is forfeited.
We get to choose what we do with our freedom. With our freedom, we can indulge in selfish and dangerous behavior, or we can choose to humbly serve others in unconditional love. True believers choose freedom and loving service.
