Claim Your Freedom

Galatians 4:28—5:1
My children like to watch zoo documentaries in which you get a behind-the-scenes look at how the zoo cares for the many animals at their facility. These episodes often involve veterinary care, including exams, tests, and even surgeries. Because these are animals being cared for, they often need to be anesthetized in order to ensure their (and the staff’s) safety.
Interestingly enough, when animals awaken from their procedures, they don’t all jump up and run away (some do, and you have to be especially careful around them). Some stay huddled in the back corner of a pen or crate, unsure of the open door in front of them. They are free to leave, but hesitate to claim that freedom.
We may be a bit like these wary, unsure zoo patients: We have been given freedom, but we don’t claim it with the fullness God intends. We have been given freedom in Christ so that we might be free from the bondage of sin and the hindrance of the law without the grace of Christ.
What does embracing your God-given freedom look like in your life today?
