Spot The Counterfeit

Jude 1:17-25
A bank teller friend told me one day that she had encountered a counterfeit bill while helping a client make a deposit. She informed the client, who was visibly upset and attempted to argue the bill’s legitimacy. She tested the bill and proved it was indeed counterfeit. I asked her how she had known it was a fake bill. She answered that she handles thousands of genuine bills daily and knows when one is not real.
The more one handles the truth, the easier it is to spot a counterfeit. Jude, in his book, warned Christians about false and divisive teachers. Jude tells us how to discern what it means to live in the Spirit. Build oneself up in the faith, pray in the Holy Spirit, and keep oneself in God’s love.
Jude did not offer a prescriptive formula but a way to recognize our spiritual stand and that of others. A believer who is seen building their faith, clearly praying in the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and displaying God’s love toward others, is a faithful one.
