Offering Grace

May 2nd, 2025

Ephesians 2:1-10

Our eight-year-old son’s school sent us a message regarding the addition of an autistic student to his class. When the day came and school was over, I asked my son how it went with the new student. He responded that the new student’s brain worked differently but played the same in recess. My son was happy to have a new friend. Since that day, the student has been referenced by name, not by condition.

It’s amazing how easy it is for children to offer grace to others and not hold anything against them. That is how God looks at us, offering grace so we may be saved, not holding anything against us. Many of us don’t feel worthy of such a gift, as the guilt of sin or the cravings of the flesh shade God’s love.

Being God’s handiwork, we reflect His creation as we do good works. As we encounter a world with broken people, feeling unworthy and distant from the love of God, it is through our works that we display God’s love. We were created to reflect the Creator, to love as we have been loved, and to offer grace as we have been offered.
