Living By Fact or Faith
April 29th, 2025
Galatians 3:8-14
My father used to say that some people lived by fact, others by faith. According to him, those who lived by fact followed all the things they could perceive or understand. Those who lived by faith followed the Spirit, in wonderment of what God would do. He would add that those living by fact loved their religion, and those living by faith loved their relationship with God.
Scripture is filled with many instances where faith and Spirit go hand-in-hand. In Galatians 3, we recognize that God’s story, from Abraham to Jesus, is not limited to the children of Israel but to all. This is where the Spirit meets our faith; it’s not about what we understand but who we know and follow.
Today, we have the choice to live by fact, to be sure of the things of the world, or to live by faith, to be sure of the things of God. It’s not easy; as human beings, we want to be safe and know where we stand. However, the blessing of our faith in Jesus Christ is the promise of the Spirit. To live by faith will reveal the Spirit in our lives.
