Psalm 112:1-10
What is it about delight that makes it one of those words that is difficult to nail down? Delight isn’t always found on the surface. One must reach deeper down in the crevices of experience to touch the fountain of delight.
Where do you find your delight? Temporal things? Momentary experiences? Precious memories? When the fragrance of delight has vanished in the breezes of change, what takes its place? The psalmist sifts all the experiences of life and reminds us: delight yourself, your soul, in the commands of God.
Of course, dusk always follows daylight. When the shadows close in, the sturdy little flame of delight pours through the advancing shadows of nightfall. Its dancing flame reminds us that even the darkness cannot stay. In God’s presence, there is always light as well as the fullness of joy.
A life lived by the wisdom of God survives even the moments when one is grieving its losses. The promise is that God’s goodwill is always on the way.
