Tell Me the Story

April 6th, 2025

Psalm 102:18-28

What are the stories told over and over again in your family? Is it about the pumpkin pie made without sugar that even the dog wouldn’t eat? When little brother fell asleep under the Christmas tree? stories get told and retold for a reason; something about the stories made them stick.

The story of God is like that. The stories are told and retold, passed from one generation to the next. What started in the oral tradition became the written tradition, and today, we benefit from having multiple versions of those stories readily available at our fingertips.

It is the story of God’s great love for His people, of promises made and promises kept. Creator God is eternal, while the stories we tell—good, bad, or somewhere in between—are temporary. God has been, is, and will be, for all eternity.

How shall we make the story of God part of our family tradition? What part of the story is so precious that we are compelled to pass it on to the next generation?
