Let Love Abound

1 Corinthians 13:1-13

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor? Your favorite place to eat? Your favorite place to vacation? Would it be fair to say, “I love salted caramel ice cream!” Yes, because it’s my absolute favorite flavor. We use the word “love” loosely when it comes to things we favor in our daily lives.

What Paul is talking about in 1 Corinthians 13 is how well we love one another as believers: Agape love should show up in our relationships with one another because we are in God and God is in us. What motivates us to care for the poor, marginalized, and oppressed? We can give away everything to benefit those in need, but if our motivation is about self, we gain nothing.

We must ask ourselves if we can really show love to others if we are not living our lives in a way that shows the world who we are called to be—Image Bearers, lovers of the Most High God.

It is love that unites us in a personal relationship with God, and it is this same love that communicates graces and enables us to love one another.
