Radical Obedience
April 1st, 2025
John 15:9-17
The commandment to love one another is easy to remember and often repeated. We see it, read it, and talk about it, but what does it look like to really live out this commandment?
Radical obedience leads us to love in ways that aren’t always comfortable: in unfamiliar places, to peculiar people, without step-by-step instructions for handling every situation. Radical obedience in loving each other means surrendering our ideas about love and looking through the eyes of Christ to see others as Christ views them. Radical love is for the whole body of Christ, the whole community.
A deeply-rooted relationship with Christ leads us to sacrificial love that puts the needs of the body of Christ above those of the individual. Sacrificial love does not seek a position of power over others, but instead, seeks to empower, encourage, and engage the outcast and marginalized among us.
You have been chosen by Christ and appointed to go and bear fruit by sharing the radical love of Christ with others. Where to begin? Sit with Jesus and listen.
