Promise of Life in Christ

2 Timothy 1:1-7
The relationship between Paul and Timothy is best described as a mentorship. Young Timothy began his ministry under Paul’s tutelage and was willing to learn and embrace the church he pastored. On the other hand, Paul was an encourager, counselor, and mentor to this young man of God.
While in prison, Paul wrote a second letter to Timothy, greeting him with the assertion that he was keeping with the promise of life in Jesus Christ. Paul’s statement encouraged the young pastor to know that his mentor was not looking at the things of the world but living life fully by the grace of God. Even in prison and in his struggles, Paul was focused on the promise of life in Christ.
I believe this was also a challenge to Timothy and the reader. Keeping up with the promise of life in Christ is a daily, devoted relationship with Christ. In a world of broken promises and underwhelming expectations, we live knowing Christ has promised to be with and in us.
We are not making a promise; we are keeping Jesus’ promise to live life with Him.
