Silver Lining

John 14:15-21
A man had difficulty understanding God’s will for his life and went to his pastor for help. The pastor led him to a window and asked what he saw. He answered that he saw children and people in the street. Then, the pastor led him to a mirror and asked what he saw. He said he saw himself. The pastor said he looked at two panes of glass, but one was lined with silver, reflecting the man’s image. If the silver were removed, he would see beyond himself.
Loving God and keeping His commandments will fix our eyes on His kingdom and not on the things of this world. The silver in our lives could be earthly possessions, financial success, career goals, personal desires, or anything that takes the place of God in our heart. The silver is removed as the Spirit opens our hearts to the truth.
When we keep God’s commands, we will focus on God and others. Today, we pray for the Spirit to remove the silver in our lives so that we may see God and others. So, Christ will be reflected in us.
