Jesus Is All We Need

March 24th, 2025

John 14:1-7

As a child, I quickly realized that I rarely got a positive answer if I asked my parents for something I wanted, like a piece of candy or a new toy. On the other side, it was answered promptly when I asked for something I needed—a cup of water, school supplies, or extra time to finish a chore. I began asking for things as if I needed them. My parents caught on to my scheme and reminded me of the difference between wanting and needing.

When Jesus comforted His disciples, encouraging them not to let their hearts be troubled, He reminded them that although their time together might be ending, He would be with them and continue to be all they needed. After three years with Jesus, the disciples moved from a physical relationship, counting on Jesus to perform miracles, to a spiritual relationship, counting on the Holy Spirit to perform miracles.

The disciples might have wanted to have Jesus among them, sharing life together, but they needed Jesus as their way, truth, and life. Only His spiritual presence could empower them to be the witnesses of a very real Jesus who can transform the world.
