1 Peter 2:19-25
To meet Jesus transforms everything, including the direction and desires of one’s life. It really is a fellowship in which we live. It is a living fellowship that connects us to Jesus in every situation and circumstance of life.
First, it is the fellowship of suffering. It’s not if we will suffer, it’s when. Jesus suffered for the whole world. He did it because of love. When we suffer, we join Him in His life and ministry.
Second, it is a fellowship of participation in Jesus’ life. How? It happens when we turn unjust suffering into a sacrament, a means of grace, rather than a moment of retaliation. Retaliation comes naturally. Embracing suffering requires a deep fellowship with Jesus.
Third, the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls calls us to live for righteousness. Forget the long lists of sins some create. Jesus modeled a life of righteousness; kindness, love, forgiveness, and selflessness. This is the righteousness to which Jesus calls us in everyday life.
