Our Help in the Dark

Psalm 139:1-12
In Psalm 139, we learn about the unlimited knowledge of our God. He knows us each intimately. His presence is not limited by time or space; therefore, He is always with us. This is comforting to us. Just as a toddler settles into a parent’s chest, so we can rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father. No matter how dire or dark the situation, our God is with us.
We have all had trying times when troubles seemed to blot out the sun. Nora and husband had such times. Once, within a three-year period, they had a series of misfortunes. Her husband was laid off; then did the same work for less pay. Next, Nora had cancer requiring surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Then, her husband had cancer requiring surgery and radiation.
During all this, God’s light shone, often through our fellow Christians. Their needs were supplied and they received healing. They could say with the prophet Daniel that the Lord knows “what lies in darkness,” and that “light dwells with him” (2:22). God will bring us to brighter days.
