What’s The Plan?
February 22nd, 2025
Hebrews 11:1-8
At my grandfather’s funeral, a reoccurring theme arose among many of those attending who knew him well: Bill’s go-to question was “What’s the plan?” I can’t say that I don’t empathize with this mindset. I prefer to know ahead of time what we are doing, when, and where. Maps, plans, and GPS do not necessarily correlate with faith.
The writer of Hebrews shares with us the definition of faith: confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see (v. 1). As wonderful as this sounds, faith is not for the faint of heart. As you continue in Hebrews, we see a list of examples: giants of the faith. Like a roll call of the Old Testament “greats,” we can see how faith can challenge different people in different ways. Abel’s faithfulness caused a rift in his relationships. Noah built a boat among people oblivious to the possibility of rain. Abraham had to pick up and move to parts unknown.
Faith, for all followers of Christ, is relying on the hope we have in Christ, who is the Alpha and Omega, the same yesterday and today. You can count on Him.
