Path of Least Resistance

February 21st, 2025

Philippians 4:10-20

We have been the owners of a horribly uncomfortable couch for several years. Wear-and-tear and subpar design did not help the structure and, therefore, comfort of this piece of furniture. It was uncomfortable to sit on, was falling apart, and was beyond repair. No one in our family or house church found a comfortable seat on that couch.

Then we were blessed with the ability to purchase a new couch, one that would have ample seating for our family and for our church family. It fits into our living space perfectly. It is so much more comfortable to sit on that folks might stay a bit longer.

Humans, as a rule, prefer comfort over discomfort. We will be tempted to take the path of least resistance. We shy away from those situations that are challenging.

Paul, however, found a way to live differently. He found the secret of being content in every situation: the strength of Christ. Paul didn’t pull himself up, give himself a pep talk, and then face the day. Paul drew all his strength from Christ, who has faced it all and come out the victor!
