Leading Others to Christ
February 15th, 2025
Jude 1:17-25
Due to false doctrine, unstable believers drifted away from the faith. Jude, “a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James” (v. 1), confronted the issue head-on in his one-chapter epistle (vv. 22-23).
I preached from this text on a Sunday morning, encouraging our people to lead others to Christ. One woman misunderstood both the Scripture and my message. That Sunday evening, she left early for church, stopping by the home of a friend who was no longer attending church. She went into her friend’s living room and proceeded to physically drag her out of her recliner to force her to go with her to church! She thought she was saving her by “snatching” her “from the fire”! Well, that obviously didn’t go very well!
Jude says we are to lead others with “mercy,” using the same word as Jesus: “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy” (Matthew 5:7).
We cannot force anyone to behave a certain way, but with love and mercy, we can carefully lead them away from apostasy and to the Lord.
