Clothed In Love

February 8th, 2025

Romans 13:8-14

We all have awakened to bright sunshine and suddenly realized we have overslept. This necessitates a quick change from nightclothes to day clothes and an attempt to catch up. In these verses, Paul compares slumber with neglecting to wake up and live for Christ. He speaks of removing nightclothes that satisfy the flesh and putting on the Lord Jesus Christ. He identifies things of the flesh as human appetites that produce good feelings. Some of these are not necessarily wrong unless they are served rather than Christ.

The word “clothe” (v. 14) implies putting on the Lord Jesus—being so wrapped up in Jesus that His love shines through to others. To be clothed with Christ means to love our neighbors and to seek the best for them. It means to cast off non-Christlike attitudes and actions.

If love does not dictate how people live, darkness will prevail. Christians are to be ambassadors for love, peace, and light. Loving God and loving others is the evidence of a Christian.

It is time to put on the clothes of Jesus Christ.
