Do Whatever He Tells You

God’s timing is often difficult to discern. Seeking God’s will and timing on an aspect of life can be challenging enough, but trusting and believing in God to work in His perfect timing can be another level of challenge.

I felt called to be a missionary when I was 18, so it seemed only natural that I would give a year of voluntary service after graduating from college. I knew God had called me to be a missionary in Africa, but there were no volunteer spots there. Finally, after much prayer and reflection, I decided my primary calling was obedience to the Lord, and so I agreed to serve in Sicily.

As I worked to raise the necessary funds, the whole project closed, and again, I had no place to serve. Had I missed God’s timing? Was my future lost? I did what Jesus’ mother commanded the servants at Cana—whatever He told me, even though I couldn’t understand what He was doing. So, I went to seminary. God’s perfect timing!

May we always be like Mary: Just “do whatever He tells you” until the next step in God’s timing is clear.
