Shout For Joy!

Psalm 98:1-9
I love birthdays. It’s incredible to me that we celebrate someone just for existing. Society and academics celebrate achievement and status, but one day a year, every person gets a party for being born into this world.
God gives us a reason to celebrate because we are called children of God. Being a child of the King is cause for continual celebration because we always have a reason to praise God. Sometimes we have to fight for abiding joy. Joy lives within us even when our circumstances have crowded into our momentary happiness.
Full joy is such a treasure that it surprises us with its call to celebrate. The psalmist says, “Make music to the LORD with the harp . . . and the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn—shout for joy before the LORD, the King” (vv. 5-6).
What a loud party we are invited to! When is the last time you celebrated your participation in the family of God? Take time today to list those joys you have in the Lord. Now it’s time to celebrate!
