An Invitation From God

Isaiah 55:1-5
Come on over! There’s nothing like being invited to a party or someone’s home. We knock on the door and hope to be welcomed in to the hearth of hospitality. Some friends create a gorgeous environment to be comfortable in their homes. We know our friend has put in effort for the table to be set and the house to be spotless. Then there are friends who can just drop into our house at any time, welcomed because the relationship is effortlessly strong.
Isaiah lets us know that God wants to be a drop-in friend. The voice of God through the prophet Isaiah invited Israel to be part of an everlasting covenant.
How incredible that the God of the universe welcomes us to sit by the fire and enter into a holy promise. “Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David” (v. 3). God’s invitation is to have a full relationship: one of listening and receiving, one of give and take.
We are welcomed completely into a complete relationship with the living God.
