Newfound Freedom

Romans 6:1-10
If you’ve ever purchased a new vehicle, chances are you worked hard in order to have the privileged ownership. Research was done, trade-ins and down payments were considered, budget lines revised.
The early Roman Christians needed to be reminded that while new life in Christ is a freely given gift, it didn’t come without cost. The apostle Paul made it his mission to make sure they always remembered the sacrifice that was made for them on the cross, that they never took Christ’s selfless act of love for granted. I imagine if Paul was writing to Christ-followers today, it might look something like this:
“I don’t understand! It makes no sense to keep sinning, expecting grace to be our safety net. Don’t forget that each of you, through baptism, was made new with Christ through His death and resurrection. As a result, you are no longer held prisoner by sin. Don’t be bound by your old life; rather, live in your newfound freedom.”
May we never forget that our freedom was bought with the blood of Christ.
