Remember to Love

Isaiah 43:22-28

Do you ever wonder why Jesus felt the need to remind us so often to love each other? Perhaps it is no mystery as we interact with those around us. I think of my own children and how often they need a gentle reminder to be kind to each other.

Jesus was nearing the cross and was instructing those closest to Him that things were about to change: “I will be with you only a little longer” (v. 33). He informed them, “Where I am going, you cannot come” (v. 33). Undoubtedly, such news was confusing, maybe even unsettling, to the disciples. They had just spent several years in close contact with Jesus. What could He possibly mean by saying He was going away?

At this point, Jesus reminded them of what He had been telling them: love one another. The future trials and challenges would be easier to bear if they practiced loving each other. The kingdom of God would be visible on earth when they loved one another. They would help form the church—which we are a part of today—when they loved one another.

Everything Jesus does is love. Remember to love.

The scripture is incorrect. It should be John 13:31-38.
