Isaiah 43:14-21
I’m sort of a marching band guy. To be honest, I’m a huge marching band guy. For several years as a member, and now for nearly 30 years of teaching, organizing, and arranging for high school and college drumlines, I’ve been involved in a lot of marching band shows. I still get excited when the time comes each season to reveal the theme and music for the next show. There’s an excitement in the air that can be almost electric. The students wonder and guess what the music might be, excited about the new things they’ll get to do this season.
God was doing something new then, and God continues doing something new now. “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness” (v. 19).
Do we see it? Can we perceive it? This God who loves us is a creative God. God is always up to something creative, making something new among us and through us. I wonder what God has planned? If we really thought about it, it would fill the air with an electric excitement that would make a great marching show look like old news.
