A Promise Kept
December 4th, 2024
Isaiah 61:1-3
When was the last time you were on the giving or receiving end of some really good news? Perhaps a young couple announced an engagement or a friend posted a picture of a grandchild to their social media channel. A doctor might bring good news to a worried family after a scary diagnosis. An employer might bring good news when promotions are offered to someone in need of a new position.
The prophet Isaiah was the proud bearer of some really good news. Through him, God told the people that one day He would send a Savior through whom redemption could be found. Freedom, comfort, hope—all these things can be found in the One who was to come. This good news would comfort God’s people for hundreds of years until Christ came to fulfill this promise.
We have the privilege of hindsight. We can read the Isaiah’s prophetic words in the Old Testament. We also get to read the fulfillment of that prophesy in the New Testament. We get to see how God orchestrated His plan for a Savior. We are recipients of a promise kept.
