Remember Why

I think that sometimes we lose the remembrance of a celebration in all the hype surrounding the observation. It seems that holidays, celebrations, and observances have grown exponentially in size, grandeur, and cost. All that drives this expansion isn’t necessarily bad, but also doesn’t always point us back to the reason we are celebrating. We get lost in the plans, decorations, food.
What part of our spiritual journey has gotten lost among the hype? God works in our lives, creates moments to celebrate, and calls us to remember. It is easy to get caught up in all the duties, activities, and responsibilities of the Christian community. When we become focused on the practical particulars of living in a Christian community, we can lose focus on Christ, who is the very foundation of that community.
