Rooted In New Soil

Romans 4:18-25
If you have ever tried to garden, you may have had a few times when you had to hope against hope. For reasons beyond their control, plants can become dried up because of where they are rooted. A change down to the roots is needed in order to bring life again. When we put our faith in God, we who were once dried up and rooted in sin can have new life down to the roots.
Abram and Sarai were beyond hope of a future. They could not have children together and were “barren.” However, God invited them to be replanted in faith. As they trusted the Lord, God led them in a new direction, changed their names, and gave them a future beyond measure!
Paul invites us into the same kind of trust in the Lord, Jesus Christ. Without God, we are rooted in sin and the flesh; we have no hope. Through faith, we are re-planted and rooted in Christ. As a result, repentance leads to a new direction, our identity changes, and we enter into eternal life, blossoming with the fruit of the Spirit.
