Don’t Give In or Up

Esther 3:1-7
Peer pressure can be powerful. Think back to a time when you felt pressured to join in and you didn’t want to. How did you feel? What caused you to give in or stand up for your own convictions? Knowing who you are, whose you are, and what you believe can help during those times when you feel pressured.
Mordecai undoubtedly had pressure to kneel down and honor Haman. Life and death can hang on decisions like this. Yet, Mordecai remained faithful to God. He refused to kneel. He stayed the course. What amazing faithfulness!
What really struck me was how Mordecai acted during his refusal to give in to the pressure: He refused to comply (v. 4). Mordecai did not shout or carry on. Mordecai did not protest this command (besides refusing to comply). Mordecai did not get ugly and in the faces of those demanding his allegiance. Mordecai simply complied with God’s command that there is no other thing in the world to be worshiped above Him.
