Where Could I Go
October 8th, 2024
Daniel 9:9-14
There have been times in our marriage when I have heard a strange noise coming from our kitchen. When I go to investigate the unusual noise, I usually find that my wife has climbed up on our kitchen counter in order to reach something on the top shelf of one of our kitchen cabinets. This always leads me to ask the same question. “Why didn’t you ask for my help?”
As humans, we tend to try to do things for ourselves before we will ask someone else for help. Sadly, this often carries over into our relationship with God. Even as Daniel outlines the way that Israel had rebelled against God, he also recounts that they had not turned back toward God. Israel had rebelled and was now tasting the consequences of that rebellion, yet they chose not to turn away from their sin and back toward God. Help was right there, but the people wouldn’t ask for it.
Even amid Israel’s rebellion, God was merciful and forgiving, longing for His stray children to return to Him.
