Ask For Time

Daniel 2:12-23
Daniel’s subtle wisdom in chapter 2 is often overlooked. Instead of panicking as the astrologers and soothsayers did when they were told by the king to perform an impossible task, Daniel stayed calm. The pagan fortunetellers were in despair and wailed, “It can’t be done!”
Who can blame them? After all, the king not only demanded an interpretation of his dream, he also insisted that his counselors tell him what the dream was!
Daniel, however, faced with the same dilemma, gave an unexpected response and one that we might well imitate. When pushed into a corner, he was neither dismayed nor overconfident. He didn’t say, “I can’t do it,” any more than he said, “I’ve got this!” Instead of an “all or nothing” or hurried response, Daniel simply asked for more time.
Are you facing a temptation? Try walking around the block. Feel like screaming at a family member or sending a “scorched earth” email? Put it off until tomorrow. Does all seem lost with your life? Give it another day. Things always change.
