Only One Worthy

Revelation 13:11-18
Much like the verses that precede it, Revelation 13:11-18 are a call to wisdom. Another beast shows up, this time out of the earth, and it gets its authority and power from the first beast. There is at the heart of this passage a call to give allegiance and worship only to the One who is worthy, the lamb of God (an image we see in Revelation 5 and 14).
In order to not be deceived, Christians must be people who are wise. There are people who seek to deceive, but their authority comes from a place other than the Lamb, and their goals are destruction. Deception is a particularly insidious type of dishonesty that causes people to lie to themselves. Wisdom is the antidote to that type of deception, and it takes patience, intention, and time to foster. Gaining wisdom takes spending time, above all, with the source of wisdom, Christ.
When we spend time with Christ and know Him so well, it becomes easier to identify deception when it surfaces.
