Paul’s Final Reminders

June 22nd, 2024

1 Thessalonians 5:12-24

When I opened my Bible to 1 Thessalonians 5, I found my Bible had titled this passage as “Final Instructions.” Perhaps your Bible is titled the same way.

Paul started the church in Thessalonica. He had been preaching there and had to leave against his will. After a few months, Paul had a deep concern about the new believers he had left; after all, he had a relationship with them. So, Paul sent Timothy back to minister to the new believers. When Timothy returned, he gave Paul the good report that the church was going well! Then Paul penned this letter to the church as an encouragement to continue in the faith.

Now that my children are older and on their own, I find myself doing exactly what Paul did in his writing to the Thessalonians. I engage in conversation, ask and answer questions, and then, at the very end, I give what I consider to be the most important, final reminders.

I think Paul’s reminders in chapter 5 show us just how much he valued the people in Thessalonica and how much God values us.
