Wait For God’s Lead

Psalm 27:7-14
I have always found waiting difficult. As a child, I wanted Christmas Day to hurry. As a teen, I longed for my 16th birthday, that I might learn to drive. When I approached the age for marriage, the wedding day seem to delay and delay. At the birth of our first child, the hours passed so slowly until I could catch that first glimpse of new life.
My life has been a journey of impatience. Can’t I know today what will happen tomorrow, next week, next year?
So, my life has been a journey of learning patience, not a character ingredient I was born with. I’ve had to acquire it little by little, in a daily growing process, learning to “live a life worthy of the Lord . . . [in] endurance and patience” (Colossians 1:10-11).
Isaiah declared, “They who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31, ESV). Waiting is not for the weak. When all around are urging haste, waiting requires strength. To wait, when circumstances insist that our hopes will go unfulfilled, takes courage.
O Lord, teach us to wait for You!
