2 Corinthians 11:16-23
God knew what He was doing when He used ordinary people to write His Word. He knew that if the Bible was filled with nothing but scholarly dissertations, it would be difficult for some of us to follow along. In 2 Corinthians 11, the ordinary human is the apostle Paul. Paul was an educated man and still very human. God confronted him, and changed Paul’s mission in life (see Acts 9).
Paul acknowledged his weaknesses and his complete dependence on Christ. He didn’t hide his humanity but instead gave God the glory for all things through his struggles. Paul noted that to be boasting in such a self-confident way is no reflection of the Father.
Perhaps you know another ordinary human being that might occasionally get carried away by boasting in their own strength. It’s possible that you saw them in the mirror recently. Each of us is only human and we are tempted to boast in our own strength. Consider being purposeful today in looking for a way to extol Christ through your shortcomings.
