Depend on God
April 16th, 2024
2 Corinthians 1:8-11
Paul saw his share of trials, including shipwrecks, beatings, and imprisonment. He openly shared about his experiences in his letters to the Corinthians. Rather than complain about his suffering, he points them to God.
Some have believed that God caused Paul’s trials to save him later. This is not a picture of the God we serve. Trials come to all of us. Some trials are of our own making via poor decisions, and other trials are foisted upon us.
This life is difficult. God’s power is sufficient to help us through any trial. Paul continues to remind us that, “He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again” (v. 10). That does not mean we will always find rescue in the way we anticipate, but there is no limit to the saving power of God! God will continue to show up even if we don’t recognize that God is there.
The great news is that God rescues us and then redeems our trials. We can be confident that God will continue to show up. Let us learn to depend on God’s presence and help in times of trial!
