The Joy of Redemption
December 14th, 2023
Luke 1:67-75
Zechariah was in a place of praise and remembering. The people of Israel would have heard his words and remembered that their people were once held captive as slaves in Egypt. For 400 years, they had suffered and struggled to live in a land that was not their own, but then God intervened. They were freed, redeemed, led on a road of promise to a land of hope!
Again, they waited for 400 years in what seemed like complete silence. They experienced oppression under the ruling thumb of many nations. Then, a whisper of hope was heard. A Messiah was coming!
Zachariah’s benediction was not just a praise, but a prophecy, a promise, a blessing to the people of God! The Messiah was coming. God had freed them once; now God was making plans for a new type of freedom that would forever change the world. They would experience the joy of the redemption of the one and only Savior, who is Jesus Christ our Lord! Now that is a redemption worth celebrating.
